The Lasting Benefits of Giving Up Alcohol: A Tribe Member’s Journey

In today's fast-paced world, many of us turn to a glass of wine or a cocktail to unwind after a long day. But what happens when you decide to give it up? One of our inspiring tribe members, Aoife, shares her personal experience and the incredible benefits she’s discovered since saying goodbye to alcohol. From improved health to mental clarity, her journey shows that giving up alcohol is about much more than just letting go of a habit—it’s about embracing a new way of living and feeling good, inside and out.

Aoife writes:

“After consuming alcohol for many years, I always wondered what would happen if I gave it up completely. In January 2023, I finally decided to do just that and I haven’t looked back since. The health benefits have been numerous and a bit overwhelming.

I had believed for many years I was a relatively moderate drinker but new information is coming out currently that warns no amount of alcohol is safe. The times on occasions when I did overconsume, it had real negative effects on my mental and physical health.

Some current benefits are listed below:

  • Better quality sleep

  • Better digestion - reduction in symptoms of IBS

  • Stomach issues - I suffered often from gastric issues & these symptoms have disappeared

  • Improvement in my asthma- have greatly reduced my medication as a result

  • More energy

  • Lost 9 lbs with no change in diet or exercise – just from cutting alcohol

  • Less anxiety

  • More focus & clear-headed thinking

  • More motivation to exercise & be productive

  • Clear Skin

  • Less bloating

  • Reduction in PMS symptoms

  • And I’ve been told I look younger!

I highly recommend starting with a 30-day challenge and really documenting how you feel. It’s worth it and something you may consider doing long term.”

Aoife's journey is a testament to the lasting benefits of making a positive change, and after 20 months alcohol-free, her story serves as a source of inspiration for anyone considering the same path. If you're thinking about cutting back or quitting alcohol, why not start with a 30-day challenge and see how you feel? You might just discover a whole new way of feeling good.
